Basic Equipment and Clothing Requirements
Items to Bring
This is a list of items your cadet is required to bring with him
to the Academy on registration day. (These are not issued
items. All items except clock and dress and athletic shoes
may be purchased at the Cadet Store.)

Optional Items to Bring
Audio: One portable, self-contained stereo (no components, no detachable speakers) will be permitted. Components and external speakers are strictly prohibited. All audio equipment is subject to the approval of the Commandant and should not exceed 28"w x 9.5"d x 14"h; this size limitation will permit it to be placed on a wall shelf in the cadet's room. All audio equipment must be transportable as a single unit and small enough to fit in a cadet's closet. Walkmans are permitted; however, all other electronic devices are prohibited. CD's are limited to five per cadet, properly labeled with name. No iPods or MP3 players allowed on campus!
Athletics: No athletic equipment is to be stored in cadet rooms. Golf clubs shall be stored in the Academy Golf Clubhouse. Hockey gear, baseball equipment, etc., will be stored in gym locations as specified by the Athletic Director. Bicycles, skateboards, and weightlifting apparatus are prohibited.
Jewelry: Expensive watches, rings, and necklaces should not be brought to the Academy. Earrings are not authorized and will be confiscated.
Blanket: The Academy issues a standard SJNMA blanket for your cadet's bed. An extra blanket is a permitted optional item. If the extra blanket is not an SJNMA blanket, then it must be dark blue in color, plain, with no markings or other decorations. Sleeping bags are prohibited.
Fan: One 12"-14" diameter, tabletop or floor pedestal, oscillating electric fan only (available at the Cadet Store). Window fans are prohibited.
Civilian Attire: The Academy issues khaki pants and SJNMA polo shirts to be worn for off campus events. Cadets are not permitted to wear other civilian attire during their stay at SJNMA.
Eyeglasses: If a cadet requires glasses or contacts, he should bring two (2) pairs with him on registration day. Glasses should be marked to identify the owner. In addition, please bring a copy of the current prescription to be kept on file in the Academy Infirmary.
