The 133nd Corps of Cadets of St. John's Northwestern Military Academy will participate in the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in downtown Chicago on Saturday, March 11. Parade starts at noon. The corps is a favorite of parade-goers as more than 250 cadets march along the streets of Chicago with the sounds of bagpipes and band instruments soaring high into the air. The corps won the Best Marching Unit Award in the 2016 parade!
After the parade, family and friends are invited to join us for lunch at Plumbers’ Hall, 1340 W. Washington Blvd. Lunch is $10 per adult and children under age 10 eat free. The cost includes your meal, and the bus ride to the parade and back to the hall. To place your reservation, you may charge your cadet’s account, call (262) 646-7220 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Reservations are due March 1. A special bagpipe and drum corps concert is planned for you on return to the hall. Walk-ins are welcome! A charge of $15 per person (cash only) will be in place at the door.

A few years ago, St. John's Northwestern Military Academy partnered with Michael C. Reichert, Ph.D., executive director of the Center for the Study of Boys' and Girls' Lives based in the Graduate School of Education, University of Pennsylvania, to explore our relational teaching strategies with boys. With his help, we have been creating a professional development plan grounded in reflective practice that is allowing us to put his research on boys as relational learners into practice. This involves learning how to more effectively manage the teacher-student relationship to produce the best possible learning outcome for our boys, bringing us closer to becoming a model relational school.
Dr. Reichert published an article called "Relational Strategies to Engage Boys" in the Summer 2015 issue of Independet School Magazine and featured SJNMA as one of his case studies. Read his article here.
