College & Career Counseling
College Counseling Program
SJNMA's college counselors assist students with the college application process. An average of 15 college representatives visit the Academy each year, including representatives from each of the U.S. military academies. Students are encouraged to visit college campuses. Information about this process is made available to parents as soon as students enroll.
For more than a decade, 100 percent of Academy graduates have been accepted at colleges and universities. Schools accepting Academy graduates include Emory, Florida State, Marquette, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Purdue, Tulane, the U.S. Service Academies, Vanderbilt, Williams, Embry-Riddle, Michigan State, Iowa State, and the Universities of California, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Indiana and Wisconsin.
Career Counseling Program
The counselors at SJNMA created the Life Skills Program, which contains grade-specific lessons that focus on the themes of self-knowledge, career exploration and postsecondary planning. In addition, the program features an SJNMA Career Day in the spring and utilitzes The Career Book to help cadets take a personal inventory of their skills and strengths. Academy Day
Students interested in applying to a military academy should consider attending Academy Day on February 27, 2010, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Zablocki VA Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Click here to download a flyer.
Academy representatives from the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Merchant Marines and U.S. Coast Guard will give a presentation about their academies and be available to answer questions. Additionally, you will be able to meet cadets currently attending these academies.
Hosted by Congresswoman Moore along with Senators Feingold and Kohl, this symposium will also offer a host of information about applying for academy nominations through their offices.
