SFC Itzia Fernandez enlisted in the California Army National Guard in July of 2003 as a human resources specialist. She then transferred to the Vermont Army National Guard in 2004 where she worked as a human resources sergeant. In 2009, she deployed to Afghanistan for 14 months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom working as a human resources sergeant, and also serving as the brigade commander's enlisted executive assistant. After the deployment, she joined the 124th Regional Training Institute as an instructor for the Basic Leader Course and the Common Faculty Development Instructor Course. In 2017, she was selected to deploy to Kuwait in support of Operation Spartan Shield as a senior small group leader for the Basic Leader Course. In 2018, she joined the Wisconsin Army National Guard and serves as a senior instructor and course manager with the 426th Regional Training Institute located in FT. McCoy, Wisconsin.
