Academic Courses and Credit
Summer OPS offers a variety of courses that students may take. Please see the course descriptions for more information.
Course credits earned are according to St. John's Northwestern Military Academy standards. While these standards meet or exceed comparative schools, parents should obtain approval for transfer of credits from the school they attend during the regular school year.
- Full day courses. Students taking a new 2-semester course for the first time are required to enroll for the full day to receive full credit, 1.0. Course credits earned are according to SJNMA standards. Parents/Guardians should obtain approval from the student’s home school for transfer of credits.
- Recovery Courses. Students who have previously taken a class but weren't successful may retake the course for credit replacement. These courses are taken for a half day, but students receive a full credit, 1.0, from SJNMA with a grade of C or better. A transcript and/or report card from the student’s school is required to enroll in a repeat course.
- Elective courses are typically a half day in length. Some courses count for credit, others do not. See the course descriptions for clarification.
- Transferring Credit. Many schools districts have a local control policy, which means each school district is allowed to decide whether to accept credits from other institutions. If a student is planning on transferring summer credit to his home school, please have the school’s administration sign the Credit Acceptance Form.
A minimum of five cadets is required for a course to be conducted. Transcripts and course selections must be received no later than June 15 for pre-registration. Repeat course credits cannot be awarded unless transcripts are received to verify previous coursework.
